Day 4. Sunflowers of South
Dakota. One of the longest days of riding begins (885 miles to Alex).
Next stop Grandma's house. This was also the hardest day of riding
I've experienced. 1. They tear up highways in SD without warning.
2. Detours are on roads that are not on maps. 3. There are no gas
stations on Reservations. 4. Reservations are not marked on pocket
atlases. 5. Sunflowers attract every known bug in the universe.
On a pain scale, flies are a 1 (standing in front of a sandblaster),
bees are a 5 (getting shot in the face with a BB gun), dragonflies
are a 10 (getting hit in the face HARD with a cane) Dragonflies
get to be about six inches long and leave welts that take days to
go away. I promised myself that if another one of those evil creatures
hit me in the face, I would pull over and have myself a nice little
cry before continuing. |
